Medical Problems Encountered by the Internist

The EFIM/EBIM Working Group on the competencies of the Internist is working on creating a list of common medical problems encountered by Internists in Europe. Every Internist must be able to evaluate medical problems that commonly affect patients in his country. While some differences may exist between the European countries, we believe that a limited number of medical problems, acute or chronic, are relatively frequently seen in Internal Medicine practice throughout Europe. This compilation will eventually be an integral part of the competencies of the Internist and will also be of value for postgraduate training in Internal Medicine.

Listed below are medical problems that are commonly encountered by Internists. The diagnoses are classified based on organ system or subspecialty. Please review the list and assess how frequently these medical problems present to Internists in your country.
